Do You Know What You Need?

Sparks 101: Which switches and sockets do I need?
When possible, consider avoiding a “mixed order”

It’s the start of an exciting adventure.
You’ve finally got the plans in hand.
The kids have moved out, or maybe, there’s one on the way!
Or maybe, it’s time to kick back and relax. Ah, lovely...

Whatever the reason, don’t rush in. DO make sure you’ve got all the right pieces to the puzzle.

You know what you want the finished article to look like, but are you sure you know what the items you’ve just added to your basket look like?

Note: For the following demonstration, I will be using our single gang 2 way switches.

Our go-to switches are the Nexus collection. Top quality and easy to fit.

NBS12 (BG NEXUS NBS12 SINGLE GANG 2 WAY LIGHT SWITCH IN BRUSHED STEEL)

When combing, ensure that your next item does NOT differ.

SBS22G (BG SBS22G FLAT PLATE BRUSHED STEEL 2 GANG SWITCHED SOCKET)

For example, you may be inclined to add our 2 gang switched socket, and why wouldn’t you? It seems like a no-brainer!
Well, unless you’re purposely intending on having differing styles or refurbishing multiple rooms, you may be about to commit a rookie error.
What you need is our ‘NBS22G’ (as seen below)

(BG NEXUS NBS22G 2 GANG BRUSHED STEEL 13A SOCKET - GREY INSERTS)

The first 2 gang switched socket I suggested is actually a FLAT PLATE. Again, a quality product, at great value, but do ensure it’s the product for you.

If you’ve now decided you prefer our flat plate range, consider an even minimalistic, sleeker, screw-less look.

All this to say, you have options! Consider which style and coating is best for you. Take a look around our website, observe the ranges we have before adding to your basket.
Another accidental mistake that can result in a “mixed order” is mixing different brands that we offer. The styles and coating of branded switches and sockets are specific to themselves. DO ensure when deciding on which brand to use, you’re considering the entire range. It WILL greatly enhance your experience using our services.

Consider the aesthetic design of the following Knightsbridge items and how they differ from the BG range.
See example below: Comparing Knightsbridge and BG

Note: BG FPC used to reflect chrome products from both brands. Both products are flat plate.

(KNIGHTSBRIDGE CL12BC 10A 1G INTERMEDIATE SWITCH - ROUNDED EDGE BRUSHED CHROME)

BG

(BG FPC12 SCREWLESS FLAT PLATE POLISHED CHROME 10A 1 GANG 2 WAY PLATE SWITCH)

Perhaps you’re after something more decorative? Look no further than Scolmore’s Deco range! Another reliable brand we offer that will add that final touch you’re looking for. Consider this when starting your shopping.
Scolmore offer their own switches and sockets that you may feel are more suitable.

Want a more simplistic look. Scolmore also provide the iconic white look that you’ve got in mind. However, be wary of combing with 812 and 912, both have a screw cover, part of the BG Nexus range. As seen below, they offer similar looks and could cause an unnecessary issue if mixed unintentionally.  The 812 has a rounded edge, whereas the 912 has a sharper look.

Hopefully this has assisted you, making your experience a more efficient process.
